Rio de Janeiro, November §9: Admiral De Mello’s fleet has left this port to intercept the President’s' fleet, which is said to be" concentrating in the West Indies. V ,: ' v " ‘ Rio de Janeiro, December 1. The insurgents fired on the British steamer Sardinian Prince, doing some damage to the vessel and wounding some of the sailors on board. New York, December 1. A report is current here that President Peixoto, of Brazil, has been assassinated, but it latoks confirmation. The insurgents have been successful in a two days’ engagement in the Rid Negro. General Isidoro and 1000 troops were Captured, and about 2000 men Were killed. ! Rid de JaniSro, December 2, j The reported assassination of President j Peixoto is denied. I New York, December 3. j Word has been received that the rebel : fleet under Admiral De Mello has escaped ; from Rio Bay, the vessels passing out in J the face of a raking fire from the forts. The Admiral intends to attack the weak points along the coast. Rio de Janeiro, December 4. Admiral De Mello asserts that he merely desires to get rid of President Peixoto’s dictatorship, and does not desire to restore the monarchy.
