A man named Joseph Guilford was charged at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, on Friday morning, with causing annoyance to passengers in a railway carriage between Wellington and Ngahauranga on the 6th November. The evidence of a man named John O’Kane showed that some talk arose in the train about election matters, and a man who was the worse for liquor, and who he thought was defendant, took hold of him by the coat and used bad language. Guard Quinn stated that Sinclair was the man reported to him for the alleged misconduct. The defendant, for whom Mr Bunny appeared, denied that he had used bad language, and said he was abused and struck by a man whom he did not know. His Worship imposed a fine of Is, and ordered defendant to pay 20s 6d costs. He Avas alloAved a fortnight to find the money, and in default of payment to go to prison for fi\-e days.
