A man named Armstrong was recently charged at the Adelaide Supreme Court with having attempted to murder his wife by striking her with an iron weapon. The defence was that the man was insane, suffering from religious mania. The jury, however, found the prisoner guilty. The Chief Justice said it was a wonder that Armstrong had not killed his wife. An attempt to kill was as bad as a case where a man carried his motive into effect, and he did not feel justified in allowing a man cf Armstrong's character to remain at large. He would receive the extreme sentence the law would allow. His Honor then sentenced the man to imprisonment with hard labour for the term of his natural life. A child of three years, Isaac Sorrensen, feU through the skylight of a verandah at New Plymouth on to tho asphalted foot* path, and was badly hurt.
