PRIZE SUGGESTION COMPETITION. THE WINNER. We have received quite a host of suggestions for a new Prize Competition. Some were good, some were bad, and some indifferent. The majority came under the last category. Many of the suggestions were excellent in themselves, but were more suitable for some particular department of the Mail, and not general enough in their character. Amongst these we might mention two or three suggestions for literary competions of which we have made a note, and may use later on. But we wanted a competition of not too difficult a character, and one in which all, both old and young, could take part, and one which would be entertaining in its working-out. Having carefully considered the various suggestions —some 200, we may mention—we have decided to give the prize of one guinea to MISS EVELINE RILEY, MARTINBOROUGH, . Wairarapa, Who sends the following suggestion : " The Editor to select a word, each letter of which is to form the initial letter of a separate word, the whole to make a sentence, and the most humorous sentence to take the prize; for instance the word " CONTENTS »- CHINAMEN OUGHT NOT TO E AT Muts TILL SUNDAY. • Eveline Riley, Maryborough. I 111., NEW PRIZE COMPETITION. THE BURIED SENTENCE. In accordance with the above suggestion the Editor of the Mail has chosen the word— DESPATCH. The competitors must send in a sentence formed of words having for their initial letters, the letters which form the word given above,, as in the example quoted by the winner q£ the Prize-suggestion Competition. A prize 61 OffE GUINEA and a second ditto of 10Si will be given to the competitors who send in The Most Humorous Sentences made up in the manner specified above. This is decidedly a trial of skill, and we hope to see our readers take up this competition in earnest, and give us and themselves some good fun. Answers will be received up to the night of Monday the 12th June, and must be addressed— EDITOR, New Zealand Mail, Wellington, With the words " Prize Competition " in the lefthand top corner of the envelope. Note.—Competitors are not to send in their sentences on the coupons issued with.each number of the Mail, and headed " Buried Sentence Competition."
