ARRIVAL OF THE RANGITIRA. The Rangatira arrived from London via Southern ports at 4.40 on Wednesday afternoon. She brings 1100 tons of cargo for this port. She takes in about 15,000 carcases frozen meat, 200 casks of tallow and a quantity of wool at this port, and leaves for London next Tuesday. ' ACCIDENT TO THE AUSTRALIA. The Union Company's steamer Australia, from Auckland via East Const ports, arrived here on Sunday night in a disabled condition. About 4.30 am on Sunday, when the steamer was to the southward of Castta Point, and running before a north-east breeze and swell, the starboard tail shaft suddenly broke off within the stern tube, fracturing both tube and gland, and allowing the propeller and part of the tail shaft to run out some sft, and filling the tunnel with water. After considerable trouble the flow of water was stopped, and the broken shaft and propeller having been secured by chains over the quarter, the ship proceeded under the port engine,' and good headway was made. When off Cape Palliser at 1 pm thess Orowaiti, from Napier to Weatport, was signalled, and she took the disabled vessel in tow, The heads were reached at 8 pm, when the tow line wa3 cast off, the vessel finally arriving alongside the Queen's Wharf about 10.10 pm. .
