A Presbyterian social gathering was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Featherston, on Thursday night. The attendance was very good considering the unsettled state of the weather. The Rev Mr Lymburn, from. Martinborough, took the chair. Musical items were contributed by the choir, Misses Sheen, Cundy, Baillie, Rouse and Wooley and the Rev Mr Lymburn and Messrs Rowse, Shearer and Moncrieff. The Rev Mr Murray delivered an address on the advantages of singing. At present about £500,000 is owed by Victorian selectors and holders of grazing areas for arrears of progress payments and rentals. The Lands Department reoently wrote to them, urging them, in view of the state of the finances of the oolony, to make special efforts to pay up. Numbers of letters have since been reoeived by the Secretary for Lands from holders, stating that, owing to the low prices ruling for grain and produce and for stock, they are unable to comply with the request ab present.
