The attendance at the opening of the Chicago Exhibition was estimated at half a million.

Half a million Cubans now residing in the United States are supporting a movement to free the island from Spanish rule. The agitators are reported to be well provided with funds. Chicago, May 4.
It is intended to erect a marble temple at Chicago, as a permanent memorial to Columbus.
New York, May 6,
News from Honduras announces that General Beuilla has been overthrown. Only last month Beuilla, as leader of the victorious insurgents, was proclaimed President of the Republic, in succession to General Leiva, who resigned shortly after the revolt.
The New York Exchange is greatly excited over the failure of the National Cordage Company. President Cleveland has postponed the Monetary Conference until November. New York, May 7.
Advices from Central America report that the Government forces in Honduras killed 40 rebels and took 90 prisoners, who were afterwards executed. Monte Video, May 7. A detachment of Uruguayan Cavalry repulsed a band of Brazilian horsestealers, and killed 45 of their number. The troops lost 12 men themselves.
