Autumn Meeting at 12.20 today. Melbourne, Alarch 1. . St Hippo’s withdrawal was caused by bis striking himself a few days ago, and not recovering quickly enough, his owner decided to scratch him rather than risk the chance of a permanent breakdown. At Caulfield yesterday Miss Albans covered six furlongs in lmin 18|sec, and Sternchaser, with White up, did two miles comfortably in 3mi” 50sec. The betting market is dull. A disposition is evinced to knock Warpaint back for the Newmarket Handicap, 100 to 5 being offered, but when it was accepted 100 to 11 was the best price ; 2000 to 100 was taken about Hero, and also several hundreds about All There at 100 to 5, and The Swell at 100 to 3. Redleap is scratched for all engagements at the meeting. Gaillardia executed a great trial prior to leaving Queenscliffe, where Zeph and Etra Weenie are displaying excellent form. Sydney, March 1. Sulphide has been scratched for the Sydney Cup. DUNEDIN J.C. AUTUMN AIEETING. (PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, February 23. The Dunediu Jockey Club were again fortunate in the weather for the second day of the Autumn Meeting, the day being beautifully fine. The racing was excellent. The D.J.C. Handicap, the principal event of the day, was one of the finest races seen on Forbury. In the straight all seven horses engaged appeared to have a show. Clanranald had the most foot at the finish, and when he was taken to the front he managed to maintain his position, winning by a bare length. The Domain Handicap furnished a series of mishaps, which created intense excitement and much fear for the safety of the riders and horses. The scene in front of the stand when three houses came down in rapid succession, and the horses and riders seemed to be tumbling in every direction, while others barely escaped a similar fate, will long be remembered. Women screamed and nearly fainted, and men were paralysed, expecting a catastrophe. The mishaps commenced with Forbury, who was leading, going into a ditch three furlongs from home, but he kept his feet. Rounding into the straight before the rails, Reflection, who was coming fast, stumbled and fell, and rolled into the ditch, Ro* gan, the jockey, having his collarbone broken. Two strides past the winning post.Tangi Alaid, who was third, came down. Some say that Glencairn, who was just in front, swerved and brought i he Alaid down. Rosehill, Kate Greenaway and Vogengang were, in a bunch next. Rosehill fell over'l’angi Alaid, and Kate Greenaway stumbled and fell two lengths fmtlier on, Emmerson, the rider of Tangi Maid, got up and walked a few paces and fell ugain. He bad to be carried in on a stretcher. He escaped with severe bmises. Connop and Jackson, the other jockeys, were also bruised and shaken. The amount inves'ed on the machine during the day was 1.6936, as against LS2OB on the corresponding clay last year. The following are the result?
