A private letter received by Mr George Fisher, M.11.R., from a London correspondent contains the following reference to Sir Julius Yogel’s recent appointment: * You have doubtless heard of Vogel's appointment as London manager of the New York Life Office. He appears to have made a very brilliant start and to be doing a large business for them so far.’ At the meeting of the Wellington Prohibition League on Tuesday, one of tho speakers mentioned that a deputation was about to wait on the Minister of Justice to urge that steps should be taken to put down Sunday trading by Chinese tradesmen, and by various hotelkeepers, who were making a practice of breaking the law in this respset. On Tuesday the Ministers of Public Works and Education, in company with Dr Macgregor, paid a visit to Porirua and inspected the asylum there. They found everything satisfactory. Wo understand that the asylum will shortly be opened.
