The Wairarapa Star Hays :—An elector of Masterton has expressed his intention of opposing the candidature of Mr Hogg at the noxt general election because of the appointment of Mr Fred. Pirani to a seat on the Wellington Land Board. Others will no doubt oppose the member because the people of Queensland have been overwhelmed by a flood, or because the Home Rule Bill has been introduced into the House of Commons. Mr J. T. Ritchie, Secretary of the Agricultural Department, returned by the Rotorua on Wednesday from the South. During his absence from Wellington he inspected the high country extending from the Waiau via Hanmer to the Clarence district, then down the Wairau to Nelson, and thence to Blenheim. He found the stock everywhere looking well. Mr Ritchie also paid a visit to the Cheviot estate. The executive committee of the Auckland Liberal Association, says the New Zealand Herald, at its meeting last night, passed the following resolution in reference to Mr Napier’s proposal re settling the Native lands:—We, the executive committee of the Auckland Liberal Association, would earnestly point out to the Government the importance of opening up for settlement the unused Native lands, and submit that the proposal which has been made to take blocks of lands (subject to the payment of compensation), under an amended Lands for Settlement Act, is deserving of the serious consideration of the Government as a just and speedy way of settling the Native land difficulty,
