A special meeting of the general committee of the Wellington Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Wednesday. Mr W. E. Bidwill, the president, occupied the chair, and there were also present Dr Newman and Messrs Foster, Pearce, Millward, Scales and Coleman Phillips. The report of the subcommittee with regird to the letting of the society’s grounds at Petone was agreed to. The report recommended that the Wellington Rugby Union shall have permission to play football at the two ends of the thow ground outside the oval, on their paying to the association 25 per cent of the gate money received by them, but that owing to the work now being carried out in improving the oval no games of any kind can be allowed to take place upon it this year. With regard to the application of the Hutt County Cricket Club, the report recommended that when the oval is laid down, in the event of the club having been then formed, it should have the first refusal of terms to be arranged for laying out a cricket crease upon the ground The report of the committee wish regard to the Hutt County Trotting Club was then considered. The several clauses as prepared by the sub* committee were agreed to, with the following addition : That no dates for racing should he fixed without first consulting with the association ; that no train* ing or racing should take place during show week, or for three days during the ram fair, or on any other day on which the association may require the ground for their own special use ; the ground to be used fur trotting pur* poses only, the club to have no right to sublet, and that the rental shall not be less than LSO per annum at any time, the lessee to pay the cost of lease, and nothing in the lease to probibit the association from having the full rights as owners of the land. On the motion of Mr Foster it was resolved that the subcommittee should have power to close the arrangements with the club, as regards leasing, &c. Consideration of the motion by Mr Coleman Phillips, re forming a Flock Book of the Romney Marsh breed, was adjourned. An interim balance-sheet was read, and considered very satisfactory. It was decided that the annual general meeting of the association should be held on the 31st March next, and Messrs Millward, Foster and the secretary were directed to draw up a report. Messrs G. E. Tolhurst and G. O. Mullins were elected members of the association.
