In cases of Rheumatism, Lumbago, Soiatica, Gout, Skin Diseases, Nervous Exhaustion, and Disorders of the Digestive Organs, &c., the curative properties of these Springs art becoming better known and realised, and there are numerous instances of a course of bathF having proved efficacious. The Springs are situated in tbe Amurl Country, 90 miles north of Christehnrch. Visitors from Chriatohnrch can reach the {Springs in a day. The first 70 miieß is by rail to Onlverden, and the last 20 by coaoh on a g od road. Tbcre are two Bath-houses, containing baths, waitiug rooms, &c., for the accommodation oi visitors and patients, nnder the oare of a keeper and matron. The sum ot £2700 has been spent in providing these baths, buildings, &0., and planting and improving the grounds surrounding them. There are Springs of hot and oold waters, and the same qualities and healing properties are to be found in both. Visitors and patients are increasing in number every year. For the twelve months ended last March over 6300 baths had been given. The price charged for a single bath is Is, but a reduction in tbe prioe is made on taking a number of tickets. At present there are two Accommodation Houses, one at Jollies’ Pass, two and a hall miles from the baths, which can provide for from 20 to 30 persons ; and the other at Jaok’s Pass, with accommodation for from 16 to 20 persons. The number of visitors now warrants more accommodation, and before very long it is probable a first-class hotel will be ereoted within a short distance from the baths.
