The Department of Agriculture have, just prepared for issue the second of a aeries of illustrated leaflets for farmers, the pest dealt with being tho Bathurst burr. At certain stages of its growth this plant is said to be poisonous to stock, by which, however, it is very rarely eaten. Great loss and annoyance are, however, caused to the farmer by the burrs becoming entangled in the wool of the sheep. This pest is spreading in New Zealand, and it is therefore of the greatest importance that every plant observed should be destroyed. The leaflet contains a great deal of useful information, and may be obtained free on application to any Stock Department.
