The local agents of the Shaw, Savlli and Albion Company have received a cable message from London, announcing that a dividend of 2 \ per cent for the half year ending December 31st line boon declared, and £2500 osrried to the reserve fund. Harris, formerly M.P. for Poole, Dorsetshire, is in Auckland, and Is touriDg Australasia in order to ascertain public opinion with regard to a system of reoiorooal tariff between Great Britain and the colonies. He suggests that colonial products should be admitted Lee at British ports, but as he recognises that new countries require to foster their own Industries, his proposal is that there should be between Great Britain and tho colonies such an arrangement of tariffs as would be beneficial to both. Johanna Ayson, 72 years of age, was drowned In the Wyndham river to-day. She was on a visit to her daughter, Mrß Doull, and went out for a walk, but not returning, a search was made, and the body found in the river 150 yards from the house. Mrs Ayson was partially blind. Ashburton, Fobruary 20, Thirteen stacks belonging to Duncan Cameron, of Clunes, Methven, were fired on Saturday night and totally destroyed. The ease was evidently one of incendiarism. The polioe this afternoon arrested a man named Coleman on suspicion. Napier, February 19. The Wellington telegram with reference to the Woburn estate is not oorreot. The Government then gave notice under clause 30 of the Act of 1891 to take over the property at tho owner’s valuation, plus ten per oent, unless the Government valuation of £5 7s 6d was assented to. Russell formally accepted this in order that he might appeal to tho Board of Reviewers under the proviso at the end of the clause. A man named Brodie has advertised his Intention of standing in the Labour Interest. The affair is treated as a joke. The damage to the main road by the flood is more serious than at first thought. The river is now running 40ft on the Masterton side of tho Waingawa River. There is a rumour to the effeot that a party of Natives were drowned in crossing the Rumahanga, but I can obtain no definite information. Tho autumn show of the Masterton Horticultural Society is being held to-day. The exhibits are hardly equal to those of last year in number. Masterton beat Eketahuna at orioket this afternoon by two runs. Havelock, February 18. A special meeting of the Pelorus Road Board was held to-day for the purpose ef deciding the amount to be borrowed under the Loanß to Looal Bodies Aot, for the completion of the Havelook-Mahakipawa road and certain other works in the Kaituna and Pelorus sub-districts. It was decided to take a poll of the ratepayers at an early date as to the advisability of borrowing £ISOO for these purpoieu.
