A boat race took place on Saturday afternoon between crews composed of ten men from the Wellington Navals and the same number from H.M.S. Ringarooma. The CGurse lay across the harbour from near Ngahauranga to the south end of the Queen’s Wharf. Owing perhaps to the many counter attractions there were not many spectators present to witness the finish. Both crews rowed in boats belonging to the Naval Brigade, and pulled pretty evenly at first, but, eventually, the Navals gradually drew away from the man-o’-war’s men, and, at the finish, were fully 400 yards ahead. Both crews were heartily cheered at the conclusion of the contest by the small crowd present on the Wharf.
