It is reported that another Russian expedition, under Captain Janoff, has started for the Pamir country. (special.) London, July 18. The Calcutta correspondent of the Times suggests that the Ameer of Afghanistan should be compelled to come to some accommodation with the Viceroy of India for the delimitation of the frontier on the Oxus and in the Pamirs. The lava from Mount Etna has destroyed several houses in the village of Veriature, and burned an adjacent forest of chestnuts. THE CIVIL WAR IN MOROCCO. Tan giers, July 18. Fierce fighting has taken place between the partisans of the rival Morocco chiefs Mohatar and Ali. Three hundred persons were killed in the conflict. The women loaded muskets for the men. Houses were burned down, and no quarter was given. When the ammunition failed the fight was carried on hand to hand. LIBEL ACTION AGAINST THE AGE. Melbourne, July 19. Williams, formerly steward of the s.s. Iberia, has taken proceedings against the Age, claiming L2OOO damages for libel in connecting him with the gold robbery from that vessel. SHIPPING AND COMMERCIAL. London, July 18. Leiclit, sugar expert, estimates that the result of the sugar campaign will be

195,000 tons below expectations. The last 10 months’ production shows a decrease of 176,000 tons. London importers assert that if the New South Wales freezing companies ship large consignments to the English markets it is impossible that Australian frozen mutton will realize above per lb. Wheat is sixpence dearer per quarter on last quotations.
