The committee of the Melbourne Cricket Club hold an enquiry on the 27th ulto. into the conduct of the members . of the football team who recently got into trouble at Adelaide with the landlord of the hotel atwhioh they lodged, two of their number being taken to the lockup and fined by the police magistrate. A good deal of evidence was taken showing that Howes and Gibson, the two members who had been fined, on entering their room on the night in question, found the bedclothes on the floor ; that they tried in the dark to place them on their beds, but in doing so upset a washstand,. and also trod on a mirror which had been laid on the floor. For this they were arrested and subsequently fined. The committee came to the conclusion that the ebullition of animal spirits was excusable in young men, and that there was nothing iu their conduct to call for any further notice on the part of the governing body of the club. The chairman of the committee, in announcing the decision, referred in very uncomplimentary terms to the conduct of Mr Pater, the Adelaide Police Magistrate, in the affair,
