THE TRADE OF DUNEDIN.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, July 14. At the meeting of the Harbour Board the Chairman of the Finance Committee reported that the position of the Board for the half year showed an improvement of £2045 as compared with the same period last year. As much had been said about the"J trade of the port he had gone into the J matter carefully, and found that the general M imports Bhowed an increase of 500 tons, j and in transhipment of 400 tons. The M •great falling off in the port had-® been in coal and timber. As to the exports there had been an increase of 2360 bales of wool, while there had been a satisfactory increase coastwise. There had been a serious falling off in the number of carcases of sheep. Had the dues not been altered they would have been in a very f happy position, as the alteration had made I a difference of £IBOO. As It was they were fl over £2OOO better off. A resolution was ■ passed urging on the Government the speedy ■ prosecution of the Otago Central Railway aa fl far as Eweburn, also to request the Govern- ■ ment to vote a sum for extending the wharf 1 at Port Chalmers, under the control of tha Railway Commissioners. ——-
