Kennel Notes.

We are sorry to hear that Mr Clater’s fox terrier bitch is still missing. He has ailvertisod, but can get no news of her. Mr Clater is of opinion that it has been destroyed by some of his neighbours. It had a great fancy for killing fowls, so, perhaps, he is right. It was Mr Clater’s intention to send her to the Dunedin Show, and we hope she will yet turn up in time for it.

We have received a- very kind letter from the well-known Skye-terrier breeder, Mrs E. M. Williams, of Tamlinscote, Frimly, Surrey, England, and wo beg to thank her very kindly for the splendid photos she sends usof her grand stud dog 3 Champion, Old Burgundy, and Carlo 111. To see these photos i 3 quite an education in Skyes, Old Burgundy is probably the very best Skye ever bred, and was only lately purchased by Mrs Williams from Mr W. Miller, of Edinburgh, at a very big figure. We are very pleased to hear that she has been successful in getting some very promising pups by him. His stock is greatly sought after in England just now, and is fetching very high prices, as much as LSO or L6O being given for them.

Mrs Williams has another grand dog in Carlo 111., which bids fair to become one of the very foremost of his breed. He is wonderfully long and low, has a splendid head, and wonderful coat of the right texture, immense bone, and is full of character and quality. We are pleased to SBe that the lady is meeting with, the amount of success she certainly deserves. She believes in having the very best that money can buy, and she is on o of the most popular and successful Skye breeders in England, and is a member of both the English and Scotch Skye-terrier Clubs. If anyone is thinking of importing Skyes, we should recommend them to place themselves in communication with Mrs Williams, who, we are sure, will do her very best for them.

We understand that a couple of Skyes from Mrs Williams’ kennels are coming out to a Christchurch fancier,, but she does not say who it is. We are glad of this ; new blood will do a great deal of good to the Skyes in this Colony.

An animated correspondence has been going on in the Australasian between Mr Coupe and the Fox Terrier Chronicle. We shall have something to say on this subject next week.

An important experiment has been made by Professor Murri, of Milan, at the Instruction for the Cure of Hydrophobia. The Daily Hews s at6S that a man who had been bitten by a dog, and hud undergone the Pasteur treatment, was nevertheless attacked with hydrophobia. Paralysis had already set iu from the waist downward?, and his life was desDiired of when Professor Murri, thought of making subcutaneous injections of the virus in its fixed form. Li tie by little a'l the serious symptoms disappeared, and the man is now cured. The Milan papers say that if further experiments of the kind, as is probable, give the same result, a real curative, and not merely preventive, treatment of the terrible disease will have been found.

The question is often put to us (Fanciers’ Gazette), ‘ Is a dog ever too small to breed with V Mrs Gordon Lynn evidently thinks not, for she has this spring got two male puppies from the little Toy Pomeraniau Lissel, and her weight is only 3|-lb, their sire being her little 41b dog Commodore Nutt. Both these little creatures were at Cruft’s Show, L’ssel getting equal third prize there, and C nmnodore Nutt winning the special silver medal for the smallest adult dog other than white, bred by a member of the Pomeranian Club. Lissel was only just over twelve months when her maternal cares commenced. Her puppies should be very good, for the mother, besides being such a genuine Toy, has what T-.y3 rarely have —a long face and small sharp ears.
