DUNEDIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, December 4. At the quarterly meeting of the Chamber Of Commerce, the Chairman (Mr A. S. Paterscn), in his speech said that to the state of trade generally the term satisfactory mi"ht be applied. Interest was centred in exports, and their rapid extension was commanding attention in the outside world, with the result that a conviction was growing in the best circles of the merits and stability of the Colony and its trade. A series of resolutions rei the Chicago Exhibition were earned ta the euect (1) that the exhibits of the colony a products should be of a national character and made in the name of the colony rather than a collection ot small exhibits from individuals, (21 the first consideration should be given to the leading products which are at pnmnfe a matter of trade with the United States, chiefly wool, hemp, rabbit skins, kauri (31 that, enbaidiary to the national exhibit, attention should be given to cereals minerals, and other natural products; (4) that the various Chambers of Commerce should offer to undertake the work of getting together producta to be afterwards sold on owners’ account, or returned to the Colony under some equitable regulations ; (5) that a suitable summary of statistics of the Colony should be prepared for cueulation. In connection with defective bookkeeping a resolution was passed, that the question of improving the bankruptcy law should be taken into consideration, and they should submit their proposals to the other Chambers and trading institutions. HYu 8 decided by a majority to agree with the suggestion of the Invercargill Chamber, that Government should give consideration to the desirability or otherwise of pining Australia in Colonial Federation.
