FLOODS ON THE WEST COAST.

MISHAP TO THE REEFTON COACH. A MINING DREDGE SUNK. Reeeton. November 25. The mail coach, from Keefton to Westport, in attempting to cross Larry’s Creek, about 10 miles from here, met with a serious accident yesterday, which resulted in a horse being drowned. The stream was flooded at the time. With the assistance of A. McKenzie of the opposition line of A. Hall and Co., the driver of the mail coach cut the dead animal adrift, and extricated the others. McKenzie’s coach had previously crossed safely, his coach being empty. The mail coach had five passengers aboard who were got ashore with difficulty. Acci* dents are of frequent occurrence at Larry’s Creek, and loud complaints are made at it not being bridged. Mr R. Reeves, M.H.R., who was on his way from Nolsod, had been detained several days at Cronadun owing to the flooded state of the river. The White Cliffs gold mining dredge on the Buller river sank at her moorings on Monday morning near Mackay’s Creek. It is supposed to have got broadside on to the current, which was runping at half flood Bpeed at the time, and turned over. The vessel lies in about nine feet of water. The loss is a serious one to the Company, as the dredge oost betweeu four and five thousand pounds. No one was looking after it at the time, and complaints are made at the negligence of the responsible parties.
