THE CARDIFF (MOKIHINUI) COMPANY’S COALFIELD.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Westport, April 20. An important report by Mr McKay, of the Geological Department, has been received by the new Cardiff Company. The ground is described as occupying the central portion of the Mokihinu’ 1 coalfield. Out of ISOO acres 1350 are regarded as coal bearing, with the probability of 100 more being the same below water level. The whole can be conveniently worked all through. The report divides the lease into two parts—the northeastern portion of which being nearer to the railway will first be worked, and bv memo, from Sir James Hector, this part, 600 acres of the whole, carries several million tons, after allowing for faults and pillars. The various samples analysed by Mr Skey are described as of excellent quality.
