Arrangements fer the first settlement under the Hon Mr McKenzie’s new regulations have been concluded between the Lands Department and Mr Atkinson, Secretary of the Association. This Association is made up of 14 young maa—mostly settlers, sons from the Hutt District, all bona fide men, who intend to go and settle noon and improve the land. They have taken np an area of 1600 acres, the capital value of which has been fixed at £4BOO, the yearly rental being £240. The members of the Association have decided to name their settlement, which is situate in the Mangatainoko Block, after the present Minister of Lands, i.e., the McKenzie Settlement. Mr Atkinson, the Secretary, is a son of Sir H. Atkinson. We are informed that other applications of the same sort will shortly be dealt with. A meet of the United Hunt hounds wi'l take place on Saturday next at Mr Earp’s farm, Tawa Flat, at 3 p.m., the ‘‘throw-off’ ’ being fixed for 3.30 sharp. By arrangement with the Manawatu Railway Company, a special train will leave town in time “ to meet and throw off with the hounds,” the country over which the run takes place being suoh as to permit those on board the train seeing the hunt from start to finish. A refreshment car will be added to the train for tho convenience of passengers.
