Rioting, which lasted many hours, took place at Bradford, where the mill hands have gone out on strike. The police questioned the right of the men to hold a public meeting, and when they attempted to disperse the gathering the strikers forcibly resented their interference. The outcome was a general riot, and the assistance of the military was evoked. The soldiers and police with fixed bayonets charged the rioters, and during the souffle many of the latter were wounded. Several of those in the crowd threw open knives at the police. Twenty of the rioters were arrested. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Charles Fenwick, M.P. for Wansbeck, requested the addition of labour members on the Royal Labour Commission. Mr Smith, on behalf of the Government, declined to accede to the request. (Received April 16, 12.30 a.m.) London, April 17. Rioting has been renewed at Bradford, and the streets are in darkness. Daring the trial of a Unionist at Chareville considerable sensation was caused by the production of important documents proving bis connection with the other prisoners. The sensation was intensified by the floor of the Courthouse collapsing. No one was injured. THE' AUCKLAND BOOTMAKERS. Auckland, April 15. A number of the Auckland bootmakers who are on strike have left for the South. The proposed co-operative factory Boheme has been abandoned by the workmeD. One reason given being that they can scarcely be operatives and masters, and that the whole policy of the Union is to avoid in that way competing with the masters.
