Auckland, April 1. At the meeting of tbe Hospital and Charitible Aid Board to-day, a letter was received from Dr Collins, in which he stated that the decision of the Commissioners on tho Arnaboldi charges was strangely suggestive of the old verdict 44 not guilty, but don’t do it again.” He proposed to send to London to ask the opinion of one or more leading surgeons there as to his surgical treatment of tbe cases which had been the subject of the late enquiry. He thanked the Board for the confidence they had shown in him at this time, but stated that the enquiry had been a pretext for the battle royal between the supporters of the old and new system of Hospital management, and he had been the chief victim of the fight. Dr Collins had more than once told him of the impossibility of carrying on the work he had to do at his present salary. He moved that Dr Collins be relieved of his duties at the end of September next and hia salary be paid to the end of the present- year, and that if he desires to leave earlier he cau do so on hia giving three months’ notice.” He said the effect of this motion, if carried, would be tbe reversion to some such system of hospital management as the old system, nnder which patients were treated by the honorary visit, ing staff, there being a resident surgeon at the hospital.
