A very beautiful meteor was seen in the heavens at about a quarter past two on Tuesday morning. It suddenly appeared directly over the Peninsula forts, about half way between the horizon and the zenith, and shot for a short distance across the sky, leaving a pule bine tail of fire behind it. It then blazed up fieroely for a moment or two, and then disappeared, leaving a pale glow in the sky, which gradually melted out. It was altogether different from an ordinary shooting star, and until the explosion resembled a very vivid straight streak of lightning.
