The steamer Napier, which has been on Messrs Dixon and Clatwortby’s slip for some months, has been purchased by Captain Sundstrum, and will be taken to Dunedin shortly. As the ship Pleiades was coming into her ber berth at the Queen’s Wharf on_ Saturday the steamer Dingadee came into collision with her, but fortunately neither vessel sustained very much damage. The steamer had the railing on her port bow slightly injured, and the ship’s bobstay was somewhat bent. A few pounds will rectify the damage. ARRIVAL OF THE ELINOR VERNON. The three-masted schooner Elinor Vernon, from America, with Yankee notions, arrived in port on Thursday afternoon. She left New York on the Bth November, and experienced light south and south-east winds till crossing the Equator on the 21st December. Had no north-east trades, and the south-east trades were remarkably light. Crossed the Meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on January the 27th, in 40. Ran down her easting about 43, and made Cape Leeuwin on March 2nd, in latitude 44deg 50min. Experienced light and variable winds across the southern ocean. Made Cape Farewell on March 21 with heavy westerly winds and thick weather. Ran through the Straits with moderate north-west winds, and arrived off the heads last Sunday night at 5 o’clock, when a heavy north-westerly gale set in and the vessel was blown away south as far as Kaikoura. A light southerly sprung up at daylight on the 26th, and she arrived as above. On March 28th her cook, named A. Schneider, a single man, 27 years of ags, died of consumption and asthma. On the 30th January spoke the German barque Wilhelm Antoni, from Mobile to Sydney, 98 days out. The Elinor Vernon brings part cargo for Auckland, and will sail for there after discharging her Wellington consignments.
