The Austrian Training Ship, Saida, arrived in port on Sunday afternoon from Sydney, via Milford Sound, and anchored in the fairway off the end of the Queen’s Wharf. The Saida was commissioned in September last atlroia, and Btarted on a cruise round the world on tne

sth of that month. The ship occupies the position of training vessel for young officers of the Austrian Navy, and she was sent out specially on this cruise to give them an educational groundwork to start them, on their careers, and Commander Captain J. Wachtel de Elbenbruck is said to be specially adapted for the work entrusted to him. Ihefcaiaais not an armed vessel of the modern type, but has perhaps a more graceful appearance than some of the more recently built ships of war. She was built at the Austrian Nxyal Yard at Pola, and is a composite vessel of 2400 tons measurement. Her hull is pierced for 17 guns, but five of the ports are closed, lhere are 10 guns on the main deck and one bow chaser of 7in calibre, two or ' I denfeldts, and one Howitzer for boat I expeditions. The metal of which the armament is formed is steel bronze of great strength much used in the Austrian Isavy. Everything connected with the mechanism is in perfect order, and the utmost care is evidently taken to preserve it so. Of small arms there are two classes, the old karalnna and the more modern repeating rifle, the Manlicker, all of which, together with the revolvers, are kept in a convenient place ready for use. The Saida is ship-rigged, performs the greater part of her voyaging under canvas, but uses steam on entering and leaving ports and other necessary occasions. She is provided with low pressure engines, which can dri va her at a ra e of 12 knots, but under sail she has done 12£ knots, the average speed, however, is 11 knots. Her spars are lighter than on most modern warships and very lofty, which, taken in conjunction with the taut and trim appearance of the rigging, give the vessel a pleasing aspect aloft. For searching purposes only the electric light is installed, and by her guns can be fired either in broadside or singly. In the matter of equipments the oaiua ranks highly, being provided with a full number ot boats, &c. After leaving Pola she proceeded to Port Said thence to Aden, Diego Garcia and Mauritius, where a pleasant time was spent by the officers. Albany and Adelaide were next visited, and at both places the visitors enjoyed themselves. At Portland Bay she was anchored so that the young officers might have an opportunity of viewing the country. After this the ship’s head was steered for Melbourne, where she arrived on the 29th January. Hobart was afterwards visited, and after a pleasant stay of over a week she sailed for Sydney, arriving there on the 25tli February. bhe left there on the 7th March, and has been visiting Milford Sound last week. Shortly aft.ei dropping anchor on Sunday she fared the usual complimentary salute, which was returned from shore next day. Ihe following is a list of her officers :—Captain Elbenbruck, Lieutenants J. Padevit, T. Haus, R- Dreger, N. de Krascsenits, J. de Schwarz, E. Harachich, J. Pfeningberger, A. Bachich and H. Marchetti, Dr M. Brillanfc (first surgeon). Dr E. Ciaston (second surgeon), W. Beck (first engineer, J. Butschek (second eng'ueer), _ c. Kozianzick (third engineer), G. Harasinm (paymaster). Following are the names of the midshipmen :—K. Rossler, E. Konek de Norwall, P.
