For the corning licensing election active negotiation has been going on between the moderates and prohibitionists with a view to a compromise, and it is believed this will now be arrived ab, as the moderates have adopted the platform suggested in the Daily Times, namely reduction of the present number of licensed housos, with fair compensation, the compensation to oome from increased license fees. At a meeting of the North Canterbury and Ashley Charitable Aid Board to-day, the Finance Committee reported the requirements for the ensuing year less surplus and refunds at £12,313.
