THE SPECIAL SETTLEMENT REGULATIONS. MR J. G. WILSON, IN CORRESPONDENCE wiTH THE MINISTER FOR LANDS. The following is the correspondence. The first telegram has already been in our columns ; we republish it in order that the whole correspondence may appear together : “Stanley Small Farm Association applied for land under old regulations, and intend take np land on deferred payment. New regulations only provide for perpetual lease without purchasing clause even—serious disappointment to members unless you place them to work under old regulations as far as tenure is concerned. Association must collapse. If you Bell land purchaser option any (tenure, Association who ought to be encouraged, put at disadvantage. “Jas. Wilson.” To which Mr McKenzie replied : “Now regulations made on purpose to prevent associations selling their allotments so soon as improvement conditions complied with, thereby frustrating the object of Association to get settlement. Will see vou on matter when I return to Wellington. J “J. McKenzie.” Mr Wilson subsequently sent a seoond telegram as follows : “Two other Associations wire me must collapse unless freehold allowed. Could you not concede freehold tenure at once, aB men want to get to work this season falling bush. I am sure members ‘ bond fide ’ settlers. “J. G. Wilson. To which Mr McKenzie replied . “ Cannot see my way to alter regulations. I oonsider new regulations far more favourable to ‘bond fide ’ settler than last. Moreover, will not assist speculators to monopolise Crown lands. „ T . _ _ „ “ J. McKenzie.
INJURIOUS LEGISLATION. (PEB PKESS ASSOCIATION.) Palmerston North, March 12. The result of the amended regulations regarding small farm settlement is that the associations in this district are forced to abandon the idea of taking up land under them. .
