A fire occurred on Monday on the premises of Mr William Stone, draper, Cnba street. It appears that the fire originated in a back room ased as a kitchen. In response to an alarm the Brigade were rapidly on the spot, and by their exertions prevented any serions damage being done. A quantity ot drapery was stored in the apartment in which the fire started, which has been considerably damaged by the water. The building is of wood, and had the flames obtained a good hold a serious fire would most probably have occurred. The damage is estimated at £250. The building is insured for £4OO in the Commercial Union, and the stock and fnrnl. ture for £llOO in the same office, the latter amount being re insured as follows :—South British, £250; Phoenix, £250; Liverpool and London and Globe, £2OO.
