DISTRICT PRIZE MEDALS.
The marksmen of the city corps fired, for, on Saturday, the gold and silver medals given by ths Government annually for the best shots in eaoh district. The gold medal goes to the man who makes the best score in the Island, the silver medal to the best shot in eaoh separate district. The weather was very bad for shooting, an unusyialJy strong wind blowing, making it exceedingly difficult to stand up and fire with any degree of accuracy. Nevertheless our marksmen proved themselves fairly equal to the occasion, notably Colour-Sergeant Oakley, Wellington Rifles, who made 33 at 200yds standing, and Sergeant Kuchen, D Battery, who scored 29 at the 500yds. The following are the scores over 70 : Color.-Sargt. Oakley, Wellington Rifles S 3 Sergt. Kuohen, D Battery 82 Prvt. Ballinger, Wellington Guards ... <8 Corporal Guise, City Rifles ... ••• 77 Private Aamodt, Guards... •• 7o Sergeant Roberts, City Rifles ... ... 74 Seaman A. France, Wellington Navals... 73 Sergeant Mcßean, City Rifles ... ... 73 Seaman Stitt, Wellington Navala ... 72 Private Ellictt, City Rifles ... 72 Corporal Ballinger, Girards ... ... 70 The City Rifles will close their shooting season to-morrow with a general competition. A Class men will fire at 300, 500 and 600 yards, seven shots at each range ; B and C Classes will fire ten shots each at 300 and 500 yards, A Class will Martini-Hearys and B and C. Sniders. A Class, £3, trophy and ammunition prizes ; B Class, £2, trophy and ammunition prizes ; C Class, trophy, £1 and ammunition prizes. The Wellington Navals assembled for Inspection at the Drillshed on Wednesday. There were79men and threeoffioera on parade. After being inspected by Lieut. Hialop, the officer in command, the men were put through skirmishing drill, &0., by SergeantMajor Finn.
