The flora of Europe embraces about ten thousand species. India has about fifteen thousand ; the British possessions in North America, though with an area nearly as large as Europe, have only about Sve thousand species ; one of the richest floras is that- of the Cape of Good Hope and Natal, which figures up about ten thousand species; Australia also is rioh in species, about ten thousand being now known.
