Gisborne, November 13,

At Akuaku three children bathing in the surf were cairied out by the drawback, and were only rescued in an insensible condition.

News has been received of the death of a Maori from poisoning. His wife administered a dose of Maori medicine made from tutu, and he died a few hours afterwards.

Gisborne, November 21. A Native child has been burned to death at Tologa. An 18 year oid Native girl was thrown from her horse and killed aUWaiapn. In the vicinity of Waipiro, Hot Spring’, roams a wild bull, which is a source of danger to traveller. Yesterday two horsemen were chased by the bull. One fired a gun and hit it. The bea3t charged the other man named McGuire, overthrowing the horse and rider, and killing the horse whilst the rider was underneath it, then attacked the first man, who fired seven shots into the animal before it gave up the fight and made for the bush. McGuire is not severely hurt. Gisborne, November 25.

Auckland, November 23. A man namod William Armstrong, who came from Sydney about two months ago, sad has since bosn staying at the Waitemata Hotel, has disappeared. He lets for a walk one evening and has not since returned. Mr Armstrong appeared to be depressed in spirits.

The man John Hynes, who recently at. tempted suicide at the Brltomarfc Hotel by Bhooting himself, was brought before the Police Court on Saturday, and charged with the offence. Dr Giles allowed the case to be withdrawn, and said it was no use commit* ting to the Supreme Court persons charged with this misdemeanour, as the Judges, and no doubt, rightly refused to inflict any penalty. He thought it strange that no amendment was made in the law.
