Powder for Sachets.
The odorous powder which is used in scenting sachets can be procured at any apothecary shop, but many persons find it less expensive to buy the ingredients and make it in greater quantity, especially when large sachets are to be scented. The puwder oan be made in lesser quantity, but in proportions to the following reoipe ; Mix together orris root grated, coriander seeds, damask rose leaves and oalatnus aromaticus, of each half a pound, of lavender flowers three ounces, of loaf sugar two ounces, of cinnamon and mace each one ounce, of cloves and musk powder eaoh half an ounce,, and some shavings of rhodium wood. When well mixed place between cotton or wadding in bage. A more simple recipe calls for one ounce of lavender flowers, two drachms of pulverized orris root, half an ounce of rosemary leaves, five grains of musk and five drops of attar of rose. Tea-rose leaves dried are good for sachets as they retain their fragrance. They are the best dried in the snn. When thoroughly dried, put in tarleton bags and, like Moore’s vaße, yon may do with it as you will, but the scent of the roses will cling around it still.
