SHIPPING DISASTER.
Bv Electric Telegraph,—Copyright. AS OFFICER WASHED OVERBOARD. (per tress association.) Sydney, July 2. The barque Brunette, from Whaugaroa, which was spoken off the Heads, reports that she met with very severe weather. Od Sunday the chief officer was washed overboard and drowned. The gale was so terrific that it was impossible to help him. The vessel was damaged, and the deck cargo bad to be jettisoned.
A ROUGH PASSAGE. Auckland, July 2. The schooner Christine, from Norfolk Island, put in last night at Marsden Point, Wbangarei, for shelter. The vessel had a rough passage. When the schooner was off the North Cape one of the seamen was lowering the mainsail when he was washed overboard in a heavy sea. A boat was sent out, but no trace of the unfortunate man could be seen. Tbe name of the seaman has not yet been ascertained.
