Harrisn Petherick, Smith, Worth, Willeeto, Moeller, Fraser. Harcourt, A. W. Brown, and Chapman. Before the general business wae commenced a special meeting was held, at which resolutions were passed for raising a loan for cemetery purposes. Mr-T. T. Webber, of Hawker street, wrote laying certain complaints against officers of the City Council in reference to compiling the rate roll and collecting rates, and asking that he (Mr Webber) might address the Council. On the motion of Councillor Brandon it was resolved that Mr Webber first of all state his specific grievance in writing before being heard. Dr Martin wrote drawing attention to the danger there was of spreading disease by fever patients being removed in licensed cabs. Dr Martin suggested that the Council should purchase or hire a vehicle for the specific purpose cl removing patients. Councillor Petherick said there was some sort of machine ordered by the Council some timo ago, and wished te know what had become of it.

Mr Wiltshire, City Engineer, said the machine in question was going to decay. The Council resolved to refer the further consideration of-the letter to the* Public Works Committee.

The following tenders were accepted : —For brick culvert at Tory-street, Mr C. O’Connor (three received) ; kerbing footpaths, T. Barton and Co, (three tenderers) ; painting tho wails of the City Council Chambers, Tinney and Bethel (five tenders received).

The report of the Public Works Committee was passed as printed," with the exception of clause 18, referring to the Lodginghouse By-law, which w as referred back to the Committee for further consideration. Accounts amounting to L 1304 lls 2d were passed for payment. Councillor Fraser moved a motion, of which he had given notice, as follows : That a committee consisting of the Mayor, Councillors Chapman, Harcourt, and Smith, and the mover, wait on the * Railway Commissioners to urge the necessity of extending the Masterton railway to the foot of Tory street at the earliest possible date. Councillor Fraser, in speaking to his motion, said tho Council should not lose sight of the matter during the present sitting of Parliament, and hoped it would not be said that the Council was not in favour of it. He pointed out that in 1886 a deputation waited upon the Minister of Public Works in connection with this matter, and tho reply then given was that after the reclamation was finished the subject would be considered. One of the drawbacks urged against the proposed extension was that of dauger, but Councillor Fraser did not see how that could be, when during the progress of the reclamation a train passed the end of the wharf many times each day and no accidents of any sort had occurred. He hoped before another year had passed the extended line would be gone on with. Councillor Worth seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.

Councillor Fraser observed that he believed that the Council had the sympathy of the Railway Commissioners in the matter. The Council then went into committee, when the following matters were considered

With regard to the tenders for Coromandel street, the Committee recommended that the lowest tender be accepted on condition that the residents in the street provide L 35 toward the payment of the work. That the owners of certain buildings reported upon by two medical oentlemen be requested to put the same in proper repair forthwith.

In reference to the new road to the cemetery, it was resolved to refer the matter to a committee, consisting of the Mayor, and Councillors Chapman and Worth, with power to act. The Council adjourned at 9.45.
