Then and Now.
The past, enwrapped in rosy clouds, fio distant, yet so neat appears, Like far-off hills, with misty'shrouds. Seen only as a dream. Time cannot steal remembrance now Its spell at every turn we meet— In scent of flower, or sunset glow, Or strain of music sweet, Oh ! who would lose that memory dear Though pain be mingled with its sweet? Still all its pleasure seems so near, The Past and Present meet. Time steals the thorns, and only shows The roses Mooming in the bower. While sunlit glory ever throws A charm to every flower The Future can no pleasure bring Like that we treasured in past time. The wild sweet freshness of the spring Ne’er comes in autumn’s prime. Sunbeam.
