THE RAILWAY REVENUE.

The New Zealand Railway revenue for the first forty weeks of the current financial year amounted to L 793,774, as compared with L 745,068

for the corresponding period of the previous year. The working expenses amounted to L 508,944, as against L 458,289 last % year ; but this, although an increase, was in sra filer proportion to revenue than was the expenditure of 1888-9, the proportion of receipts absorbed by working expenses being only 63 per cent, this year as against 65 per cent, last year. (increase 4628) ; 682,773 live stock (increase 43,381) ; and 1,537,109 tons of goods (increase 60,502 tons). The numerical traffic showed a decrease of 21,125 tons.
