Mr Palmer will go to Christchurch by the first steamer. The remaining member (Mr A. K. Rhodes, M.H.R.) leaves for the Thames to-morrow in regard to ,the matter which he has been appointed by the 'Government to investigate. s ports held at Ellerslie for the polo ponies, the challenge cup given by Captain Savile aa a p rize .for annual competition by the Polo Club'S of the Colony was formally presented to the Canterbury team, the winners for tb e year, by his Excellency Lord Onslow. The Governor said he was glad that tls© clubs of the Colony had commenced to pi a.y together, and hoped that in another year the other clubs would give a better account of thems-elves. Cheers for his Excellency and Captain Savile were then called for by Air Rhodes, and heartily given. At tire call of Lord Onslow, cheers followed for the Canterbury players. The cup is a very handsome one, of silver, and bears the inscription on the bowl—- “ N.Z. Polo Challenge Cup. Presented by Capt. R. Stewart Savile, A.D,C.” The bowl rests upon three polo sticks, below which, on the base is a polo ball.
