Sir, —I have read this morning in your advertising columns that “ a gentleman of good business habits and colonia l experience is required to act as travellin g agent for a successful (?) life insurant ;e office. Remuneration by salary and commission. To a good business man t his can be made lucrative, &c.” Now, Mr Editor, this advertisement is just a ■eas e in point with a portion of what you asssevt in your subleader of 11th ult., vast, that ignorant agents who have no pre ..vious knowledge in life insurance seriously compromise themselves, as we® as s et the offices'they represent into trouble,tl irough gross misrepresentations. Take ior example the witness Morris?' testimony in the case of Bertie v. Equitable. According to all accounts Mr Moore rig a good business man, but with’ all his. business habits and his colonial expense: nee, together with his one week’s know ledge of life insurance, see. what he due l trying to coach Bertie- into the; mysterie -s of tontine insurance, is, to say the leas b of it, a very unfortunate thing for the E quitable. It is to be regretted, from’ fell e policyholders point of view, that Dixe cfcors who are well paid in life offices dk>nc it exercise more care with their secretaries and managers (who have the ©out rol of appointments), and see that Snste ad of good business men none are appoin ted. but experienced life agents, men wh o ar-o trained to the business, understand th eir work, and ar © truthful in their statements.
