WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, January 30. The Wesleyan Conference to-day passed a resolution expressing sympathy with all lawful and righteous efforts put forth by labour to secure its due reward where it ia denied. A telegram from the Mayor of Auckland acknowledging che Conference message of congratulation was received with approbation. The chief business was the consideration of home mission affairs. It was re. ported that the income of last j'ear was £2463, and the expenditure £2645. The estimated income for next year was £2490, and the estimated expenditure £2593. The Conference to night carried a series of resolutions recommending to the General Conference that legislative powers be conferred on the annual conference’s representative to the General Conference ia the proportion of one in twelve, and that the General Conference meet every four years, and that the annual conferences have power to suspend the action ot the General Con» ference regulations found unsuitable to the district till the next General Conference, by two-thirds majority. Christchurch, January 31. At the Wesleyan Conference to-day the Re* R. H. Dewsbury was appointed Conference Lecturer for 1890. It was recommended that the Rev W.' Morley be designated general secretary for oonnexional purposes at the next Conference. The New Zealand Methodist affairs were considered and the editorial staff reappointed. At the Wesleyan Conference to-day, a memorial was received from the Secretary of the Early Cosing Association commend, ing the objects of the Association to the members of the Conference. It was resolved to receive the memorial, and to express sympathy with the end aimed at by the Association. Ihe President read a memorial from, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, asking the sympathy of the Conference in relation to the proposal for an extension of the franchise to women. On the motion of the Rev J. Williams the memorial was received, and the Conference, with scarcely a dissenting voice, expressed its cordial sympathy with the object of the memorial. In the afternoon 1500 Sunday scholars, with two bands, assembled in Cathedral-square and marched to Cranmernquare, where addresses were given by the Revs Mr Lewis, Berry, and Watkins.
