THE JUBILEE.

The proceedings in celebration of the Jubilee were

a pronounced success, and the Committee is to be congratulated upon the happy and striking results of its labours. Not the slightest hitch .of any kind occurred to mar the festivities which, first and last, were heartily enjoyed by all who took part in them or witnessed them, and were enthusiastically applauded. Indeed, the cheers and applause that were evoked along the processional line of route were marked features of the proceedings. But the feature of features was the children’s, turn out. The long line of four deep seemed almost endless, while the appearance of the “little people” was charming in the extreme. No one Who witnessed that procession could have seriously entertained the proposition that marriage is a failure in New Zealand, for as is it here so it is elsewhere. We of New Zealand are one people to all intents and purposes. The exhibition of the trades of the district in the procession was very fine and most artistically arranged. In fact, we should think the procession was far and away in advance of any thing of the kind that has been yet attempted in New Zealand. We give elsewhere a detailed report of the procession and the subsequent occurrences in the Basin Reserve. We regret that we cannot compliment his Excellency the Governor upon his reply to the loyal address presented to him. It was a string of platitudes as cold as ice.
