TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAID. Sir, —I have, in common with almost every settler in the Manawatu District, carefuby perused your sub-leader of last week, and the decision of the Resident Magistrate, also in the Times, re the case of Bertie v. Equitable, and I need scarcely add that we concur in a great measure with what you say ; and as to the Magistrate’s decision we are unanimous to a man that a more equitable one was never given in the Wellington Resident Magistrate’s Court. Mr Editor, you are correct in saying “We believe that many of the agents and canvassers of tontine life insurance offices are only partially instructed, and hence mislead others, as well as seriously commit themselves.” I assure you a more truthful statement than this never appeared in the columns of your valuable paper, to the loss be it understood of the unfortunate policyholders, and worse than all, it is now telling--against the old, honest, truthful, and legitimate agents;- who are almost discarded 1 to 1 make way for those incompetents tor-reasons obvious only to managers and secretaries who gettheir 1 salaries with very little exertion 5 on their part ! The extraordinary dumber of “ inexperienced agents ” ’which. are appointed now-a-days is appalling 1 ; they are positively ignorant of life insurance business, ! consequently 5 misleading arid untruthful in their statements'; and the sooner the insuring public know this throttglV the medium of your paper the better for all concerned.
