SAN FRANCISCO MAILS.
Tne New Zealand Government have resolved to join the Government c L to South Wales ill approaching the Rrliiso Postal p.ep^rfem o * with* a view of acqoievatibg the transmission of the San Francisco n ails. Under the present arrangement the mails are conveyed across the Atlantic to New York by ordinary slow steamers. The idea is to insist on having the mails sent across the ocean by some of the “ greyhounds of the Atlantic,” which are now making such record run-. These fast steamers would connect at New York with special fast trains running across the Continent." By this arrangement it is calculated that a saving of at least three days will be effected. l,f New \YalCs agrees to the suggestion, a' requisition will be at once sent to tho British Government on the subject.
