A NEW GOLD FIND.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, January 15. An important discovery is reported from Dargaville to-day.' During the sinking o£ an artesian well in the centre of the town, a dark blue and green cement-like stuff, containing black sand, was found at a depth of 5S feet from the surface; some bright specks are seen, and when the stuff was examined under a magnifying glass it was seen to contain what appeared to be fine free gold. A small parcel of tho stuff, about 3 lba, was panned off, aud a residuum of black sand and floury gold wa3 obtained. The stratum at present known to contain the gold is only about 12 inches through and the bore only inches in diameter, so that no large quantity of the auriferous stuff can be obtained until a shaft is put down. This is to be done forthwith. Tho artesian well is being sunk on tho side of the road, and the surrounding laud be« longs to the Dargaville family.
