A RAROTONGAN CONSUL.
(PEP PPESS ASSOCIATION.) Auokpa.np, January 6. The Herald is authority for the statement that communications have passed bo tweep the English and New Zealand Governments in regard to the British Consulate at Rarotonga, The Rome authorities have written asking if the Government of this Colony would be prepared to contribute toward the maintenance of a consulate upon a more permanent basis than at present; the Consol to be nominated by e ther the Eng* fish or New Zealand Governments. No definite conclusion has yet been arrived at, but in all probability the matter will be decided shortly.
