£47,000 Waste of Time.—Statistics are funny. A clever hand at figures says : Twelve thousand vehicles, a quarter of them omnibuses, pass through the Strand iin the day, and the narrowness of the street causes each of their 63,000 occupants to waste on an average three minutes. The total waste of time equals 3150 hours, the money value of which, at the very moderate rate of one shilling an hour, is £157 per day, or over £47,000 per annum. The St. Peter’s Organist.—Mr Tallis Trimnell has accepted the offer made to him by the St. Peter’s Vestry of the post of organist to that Church. The salary will be £125 per annum. The date on which Mr Trimnell will enter upon his new duties is not yet fixed, but it is supposed that he will have to give thrse months’ notice of retirement from his present position. Judging from the high reputation Mr Trimnell has hitherto enjoyed, the St. Peter’s parishioners may be congratulated on their good fortune in securing the services of so able and experienced a musician.
