The New Zealand Shipping Company’s R. Tongariro, Captain Bone, sailed for London, via Rio, Teneriffe, and Plymouth at 9.30 am yesterday week. THE PASS OF LENY. Captain McDowell, of the barque Pass of Leny, reports Left Buenos Ayres on the 24th October ; on 26th, in lafc 39deg 22mm S. long 46deg 45min W„ at midnight, had an electric storm; St Elmo's lights visible at the mastheads and yardarms ; during the height of the storm the wind blew from all points of the compass in fierce gusts, with torrents of rain; the ship suffered no damage, being kept before the blasts under two lower topsails ; thence to the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope (which we crossed on the 10th November, in lat 43deg S.) had moderate to strong gales, with much rain; came across the Southern Ocean on a parallel of 44deg and 45deg S.; had winds varying from north to west, but generally flue weather, our greatest day’s Eun being 280 mile 3 and the smallest 75; crossed the meridian of Cape Leeuwin on 3rd December, thence to the Snares (which were sighted on 13th December, at 8 pm) had moderate wind and fog ; had to beat all the way up the coast against strong northerly

breezes ; on the 17th, when five miles off Cape Saunders, had a heavy north-wester, in which we lost and split some sails ; on Wednesday, at 8 am, closed with Otago Heads. when we received orders to proceed to Wellington; bad a fair run as far as the Peninsula, when the ball opened again with strong north - westers ; have been twice down within 15 miles of the Heads and got blown off again, splitting a few more sails ; on the 24th at 6 am, arrived off port, between Sinclair and Turakina Heads, where we shipped the whole pilot staff of Wellington, with their boat and gear complete ; the wind being then moderate, bad a tug been available we might have reached safe anchorage in another hour or so. Made an attempt to beat her in, hut the wind freshening, came to anchor in 17 fathoms, Penoarrow lighthouse bearing north, distant about one mile. At spm same day came on to blow a strong gale, and paid out chain to 90 fathoms. On Thursday, there being a moderate north wind, hove in chain preparatory to towing in, but no tug appearing, had to pay out chain again, wind freshening after noon. Arrived fn hirbour late on Thursday night.

ARRIVAL OF THE R.M.S. AORANGI, FROM LONDON. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s R.M.S. Aorangi, Captiin Sutcliffe, arrived in harbour at 10 am on Monday from London, via way ports. She left Plymouth at 6.30 pm on 16th November with 300 bags mails, 13 boxes parcels post, 232 passengers, and 56 boxes specie ; arrived Teneriffe at noon on 21st, stayed hours for coaling, then proceeded on voyage; crossed the line in 9deg W. long. ; met with light Trades ; arrived Capetown 11.50 am on 7th December, leaving again at 5.55 pm, and arrived at Hobart on Christmas Day at 11.45 am; left Hobart at 7.15 am on the 26bh December, arrived in harbour at 10 as above, and berthed at the wharf at 12.30. One death occurred during the voyage on the 13th December. Mr Sydney J. Perrin, a second-class passenger, died of phthisis.
