The New Councillors. —The successful candidates at the recent municipal elections took their seats at the City Council table on Monday at the meeting of the Public Works Committee, for the first time, and signed the necessary declarations. The Mayor, in welcoming the new councillors, expressed his regret at the loss of the three councillors of exceptional ability, but. he had no doubt that their successors would prove equally competent. He might say, after having presided at the Council meetings for nine months, that the meetings had been carried on without any unpleasantness, And while the questions which had come before the Council hsd always, he thought, been sufficiently discussed, the debates had, on the whole, been concise-, and he expressed a hope that the present Council would continue to conduct the business in the same way.
